History of the Tournament
The first edition of the Citi Open was held in 1969 under the name National Star Tennis Tournament. Over the years, it went through several name changes until becoming known as the Legg Mason Classic. In 2008, the tournament was rebranded to become the Legg Mason Tennis Classic presented by Herberts, and again in 2011 when it became known as the Citi Open.
